What is earlobe repair and reduction?

Earlobe repair is a simple procedure that reshapes the lower portion of your ear in the office. The procedure can be done for a variety of reasons, but the most common one is to repair a stretched ear piercing that has grown in size over time. It can also be used to repair a completely torn earlobe caused by an accidental earring tug. Earlobe reduction, on the other hand, is a slightly different technique for trimming long or hanging earlobes that are common in older ears.

How is an earlobe repair performed?

To confirm the surgical plan, a skin marker is used to mark the earlobe as needed. After that, the ear is cleansed and numbing medicine is injected. The old piercing scar may be removed if necessary to allow for proper closure. The extra earlobe skin is trimmed away gently and carefully, and the earlobe is then sutured closed. These sutures will either dissolve or be removed in about a week. The sutures are treated with antibiotic ointment twice a day for a week. There are no other medications that are required.

How long does it take for earlobe repair to heal?

Sutures will be removed if necessary about 7 days after the procedure, but you can resume your normal daily routine right away. The ear will heal in a few weeks with minimal discomfort.

Is it possible to pierce my ears again after an earlobe repair?
