What is Rhinoplasty?

Often referred to as nose job, Rhinoplasty is a Facial cosmetic surgical procedure performed to alter the shape and structure of the nose. Nose being at the center of the face, is an important structure in terms of Facial beauty. Rhinoplasty alters and modifies the internal cartilages and bone of the nose to reshape it to a more acceptable and aesthetically pleasing appearance. It can improve the size and shape, straighten the bridge, alter the base, and improve the tip of the nose.

How is Rhinoplasty performed?

Rhinoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia. A miniature incision is given at the base of the nose between the nostrils. The internal structures like the cartilage and bone are exposed and required changes are done from inside the flap. For small changes, cartilage may be used from inside the nose itself or from the back part of the ear. While for larger changes, cartilage may be used from the rib. Once the required changes are done, the incision is closed with sutures which are usually taken out in 10 days.

What to expect after a Rhinoplasty surgery?

Rhinoplasty has the potential to alter a patient face. Post-surgery and recovery, one can expect the most prominent part of the face to be well balanced and in harmony with the face. Any deformity of the nasal bridge like a hump or depression would be corrected. The nasal base can be modified as deemed necessary for a better aesthetic appearance. Nasal tips can be altered to match the face.
