Thread Lifts

What is Facial Aging?

The dynamic process of facial aging of the face is highly complex and irreversible. This dynamic process is a synergistic effect of various factors and actually takes place at 4 distinct levels (the 4 S levels): Skin, Subcutaneous tissue, SMAS, and facial Skeleton.

The process of aging causes the disintegration of collagen and impedes the synthesis of new collagen in the skin. Alongside this, there is a breakdown of elastin. This causes the facial skin to become slack, wrinkled, and leathery. As the skin elasticity reduces, the gravity pulls the soft tissues and the skin downwards resulting in jowl formation, deep nasolabial folds, formation of marionette lines, lack of definition of mandibular line angles, etc.

What is Thread lift treatment?

Thread lifting treatment is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that utilizes a biocompatible implant placed into the deeper layers of the face to predictably shift and realign tissues in a predetermined direction or vector. When compared to a surgical facelift procedure, this elevates the drooping tissues with the least amount of risks and complications, immediate results, and rapid recovery.

There are 2 basic types of threads depending on the modality of their action:

  1. Threads that redefine the facial contours by lifting the ptotic tissues – referred to as the Barbed threads
  2. Threads that cause induce collagen formation and cause rejuvenation referred to as Mono PDO threads.

These threads are usually made of resorbable Polydiaxonone materials. The other materials utilized are Polypropylene and Poly -L Lactic acid.

How is a thread lift treatment done?

The barbed sutures simply work by grasping and mechanically pulling the ptotic skin. The barbs present in the thread get entangled in the subcutaneous tissues and as the thread is pulled backward, the tissues get squeezed along the barbs and stay there as the thread outside is cut off. So, the barb threads basically pull the ptotic tissues along the vector against the gravity. This procedure is generally performed under local anesthetics and gives instant gratification since the results are immediately seen.

The plain mono polydioxanone threads are placed in the dermal plane and help in neocollagenesis, i.e, production of type1 collage by biostimulation. They are used for facial rejuvenation and are mostly utilized for

  • Fine lines and wrinkles in any part of the face like the periorbital area, malar areas, perioral areas, chin, etc.
  • Skin tightening – Under the neck, cheek lifting, lines around, and under the mouth.
  • Crepey skin
  • Acne scar filling
  • Outlining of Lips to create a fuller look naturally
