BEARD HARVESTING FOR HAIR TRANSPLANT IN NAVI MUMBAI BY DR ARUN PANDA
What are the donor areas during a hair transplant?
The most common site from where the hair is harvested is the hair from the back part of the scalp, also called the Primary donor area. Being similar in texture, it matches the hair present in the nearby bald recipient area. Many times this donor isn’t adequate enough to cover the recipient area. Hence hair needs to be harvested from other areas of the body. The secondary donor areas include the beard and chest hair.
Why Beard Hair?
Beard hair is an excellent choice for hair transplantation. The thickness of each beard hair is almost twice that of scalp donor hair. It means that each beard hair can give a density of two scalp hair. It is easy to harvest from the beard as the grafts are thicker. Cosmetically they do not leave any visible scarring and the area heals very quickly too.
Another advantage of adding beard hair to the harvested hair from the occipital scalp is that the hair in the occipital area or the back part of scalp is also preserved to allow for a greater number of possible hair transplant grafts in the future.
